Burbang

8 Nov 2019
Canberra ACT

Burbang is the Wiradjuri word for ceremony. In a ceremony, rituals repeat, unchanged, but the participant arrives each time with greater wisdom and hierarchical standing, and can 'peel back' the significance of the ceremony's embedded knowledge. Independent choreographer and dancer Joel Bray will share his research into traditional Indigenous ceremonial practices and how this will inform his new project, Burbang, a work of immersive dance theatre.

Joel Bray is a choreographer, performer with Chunky Move, Next Gen creator with BlakDance and a proud Wiradjuri man, whose work and performances have been seen nationally and internationally.

Joel Bray is the 2019 National Library Creative Arts Fellow, supported by the Friends of the National Library of Australia.
