Anindilyakwa Community Celebrate the return of their Treasures from Manchester Museum

The Anindilyakwa Community has celebrated the return of 174 cultural heritage items from the Manchester Museum, United Kingdom. Members of the Anindilyakwa Community, Traditional Owners of the lands and waters of the Groote Archipelago in the Northern Territory, gathered at Umbakumba where the items were originally collected to welcome home their treasured cultural heritage material.

Sea country recognition celebrates traditional resource use

Yirrganydji Traditional Owner Gavin Singleton was part of the group that developed the first Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreement for north Queensland’s Yirrganydji people. Now traditional use of marine resources, such as turtles and dugongs, and valuable cultural practices, are balanced with the conservation and management of the Great Barrier Reef.
