Important information to help with tax time.

Did you know the best time to lodge your tax return is late July? By then, most of your info from employers, banks, and health funds, will have been automatically pre-filled into your tax return.

To help people this tax time, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) offers a range of support, including:

Resources

  • Tailored tax and super information for individuals and businesses is available at ato.gov.au/Indigenous.
  • The 2025 tax time toolkit for Individuals contains information on deductions, common work-related expenses, and records you need to keep. 
  • Managing a small business is serious business. That’s why the ATO has created the Small business tax time toolkit - a practical resource designed to support you through tax time and beyond.

Support

  • The ATO’s Indigenous helpline is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and provides specialised tax and super assistance. The Indigenous helpline is available on 13 10 30 (Monday to Friday, 8am and 6pm, excluding public holidays).
  • The ATO’s Tax Help program is free and helps eligible people earning $70,000 or less to lodge their tax return. Trained ATO volunteers can help you lodge your tax return online. You can download and share Tax Help posters in 13 Aboriginal languages.
  • The National Tax Clinic program is an independently run government-funded initiative that supports eligible individuals and small businesses who are unable to access tax advice and assistance due to economic, social or personal factors.
  • The ATO Community online forum is available 24/7 and designed to make tax and superannuation easier to understand. It provides a space where you can ask questions, share knowledge, and discuss you experiences in a supportive environment.
