Nominations are now open for the 2026 Prime Ministers Prize for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledge Systems.
The Department of Industry, Science and Resources is holding a webinar on Tuesday 2 December 2025 at 2:00 pm AEDT. The webinar will help nominators better understand the nomination process and prepare a strong nomination.

The Prime Minister’s Prize for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledge Systems recognises the practice and preservation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems occurring across Australia. It is one of 8 prizes in the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science.
Recipient(s) receive a medallion, prize money of A$250,000, national recognition and exposure to new opportunities and networks.
Nominees of the Knowledge Systems Prize:
- must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- can be an individual, a team or a community group (up to 4 individuals may be named a team or a community group)
- must practice Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems as part of an Indigenous-led project with demonstrated benefit to Australian Indigenous peoples, communities and place.

Nominations will close on 18 December 2025 at 5:00 pm AEDT.
