New National Code of Practice for Remote Store Operations – Consultation now open

Remote Australia Strategies
The National Code of Practice for Remote Store Operations

Community stores play a vital role in ensuring access to essential goods and services in remote communities.

The National Code of Practice for Remote Store Operations is a voluntary code for remote community stores across Australia, and is planned to commence 1 July 2025.

The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) is currently consulting on the Code.

NIAA is interested in testing the information in the Code, as well as identifying areas where support is needed to enable remote stores to adhere to the Code.

Feedback will be used to finalise the Code and inform support, training and communication available to help remote stores meet and exceed the standards set in the Code.

The consultation closes on 11 June 2025.
