New campaign to improve school engagement for First Nations children

The National Indigenous Australian’s Agency (NIAA) engaged Wunan Media, a First Nations Media company to develop a range of resources to raise awareness about the importance of attending school and engagement with education for First Nations young people.

The campaign materials feature Claymation style characters which have been digitally developed based on real students and community members from the East Kimberly in Western Australia. Wunan Media took this approach to ensure that the campaign would be representative of real people and their real experiences.

Elizabeth Cox, General Manager of Education and Employment at the Wunan Foundation shares:

“Education is one of the most powerful drivers of opportunity, helping create brighter futures and stronger communities. We hope the ‘School, Let’s Go!’ campaign encourages more young people across the country to stay engaged in school and the opportunities it can unlock.”

I would like to acknowledge the work and encouragement our teams and school staff made on the ground preparing our community member ‘actors’, who made this journey such a fun and exciting project that has a very important message about staying in school." says Elizabeth.

A range of videos, posters and images have been developed using these characters to support teachers, families and communities to have discussions with First Nations young people about the importance of engagement with school and the positive outcomes they can experience.

The resources tell an important story in a way that resonates with young people about why school matters.

The ‘School, Let’s Go!’ campaign supports the Education Engagement and Attainment Initiatives (EEAI) which is a program funded by the NIAA, to improve school attendance and engagement of First Nations young people.
