​​Launch of an updated STEM Equity Monitor​

​The STEM Equity Monitor provides a comprehensive national picture of participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

An improved STEM Equity Monitor has been launched, making it easier to find and explore updated data that helps to improve representation of First Nations peoples in STEM.

The STEM Equity Monitor provides a comprehensive national picture of participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It tracks the experiences and outcomes of diverse groups from school, through higher education, and into the STEM workforce, helping inform policies and initiatives that support greater equity and inclusion.

First Nations people remain underrepresented in STEM, alongside women, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people living in regional and remote Australia.

The new STEM Equity Monitor helps users:

  • Access data dashboards and infographics on First Nations people, people with disability, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Explore interactive data, insights and analysis from multiple datasets and sources.
  • Track participation and outcomes across the STEM journey, from school to the workforce.
  • Examine data by location, socioeconomic status and other demographic factors.
  • Download the STEM Equity Monitor Data Summary Report 2026.
  • Access infographic posters and resources to support awareness and engagement.

Additionally, the monitor includes real case studies of First Nations people and other people from diverse backgrounds, sharing their views and experiences in studying and working in STEM.

Having a diverse workforce in STEM provides greater opportunity to enhance outcomes for underrepresented groups and to improve the impact of STEM fields. Importantly, the data collated by the STEM Equity Monitor from across education, training and employment can help inform programs, partnerships and advocacy. It helps identify where underrepresentation persists and where targeted action can create more equitable STEM pathways and workplaces.
