Economic empowerment announcements at Garma 2025

The Prime Minister announced a series of new initiatives at the 25th anniversary of the Garma Festival.
The Prime Minister has announced new initiatives to support economic empowerment for Indigenous communities at the annual Garma Festival, hosted by Yolngu at Gulkula in northeast Arnhem Land.
Speaking at the 25th anniversary of what has become the nation’s largest Indigenous festival and policy forum, Mr Albanese announced several new initiatives, aimed at strengthening economic outcomes driven by First Nations people.
The announcements are:
- Funding for a new First Nations Economic Partnership, which has been formed through agreement between the Government, Coalition of Peaks and the First Nations Economic Empowerment Alliance.
- Additional funding of $75 million for native title corporations to realise the potential held in their rights to traditional country through stronger negotiations with key economic stakeholders.
- Additional $31 million for mobile TAFE, to reach people in remote communities, enable teachers to take skills on the road and train the next generation of mechanics, carpenters, plumbers and workers in the Aboriginal community controlled sector.
The initiatives are aligned to the Priority Reforms of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, to work in partnership, invest in the First Nations community-controlled sector, and transform mainstream systems to achieve better outcomes for First Nations people.
