Grants to create new jobs in remote areas are now open – giving communities the opportunity to have their say in what roles are needed.
Grants are now open for eligible employers to create jobs under the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) program and will close on 7 April 2026.
Around 1,700 new jobs have been funded across remote Australia so far.
The Australian Government is also expanding the RJED program with a further $299 million investment over 4 years to create an additional 3,000 jobs, bringing the total to 6,000 by 2030.
How does the RJED program work and what do communities need to do?
- Communities are encouraged to think about the jobs and projects they would like to see and speak to local employers.
- Communities tell local employers who can apply for funding to employ local people.
- Jobs can be part-time, full-time or casual and be flexible around personal, family and community obligations – depending on what individual communities want and need.
Are you an employer and need help?
- Employers can access a dedicated RJED Grant Opportunity Helpdesk on 1800 939 500 email RJEDHelpdesk@niaa.gov.au.
- Some Eligible employers can access 5 hours of grant writing support – complete this EOI.
