The Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, has paid tribute to Mr William Bates, a Wilcannia community leader who sadly passed away on the weekend.
Seven Aboriginal Certificate III Hospitality students from TAFE Western Wilcannia have returned from the Kambarang food festival in triumph, where they not only built their skills for future employment, but showcased their passion for food to some of the world’s best chefs.
Margo, a Barkindji woman from around Wilcannia in western New South Wales, is the girls’ full-time carer. This year, Kiesha, 12, joined her sister Natasha, 14, at high school.
The Wilcannia community has congratulated the first 10 graduates from the new “Yes I Can!” Indigenous adult literacy program.
Indigenous adults are improving their reading and writing skills.
