Celebrate NAIDOC Week – community grant round now open
What does your community have planned for NAIDOC Week?
The NAIDOC Local Grants round are now open. Community organisations are invited to apply for a grant to support events and activities that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, achievements and continuing contributions to our country and society.
The grants support small budget proposals (under $1,000) to larger community scale events.
Ideas for activities and events include:
- arts and cultural activities
- family fun days
- elders’ activities
- NAIDOC themed sporting activities or competitions
- events promoting reconciliation
- flag raising ceremonies with accompanying activities, and
- activities promoting health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
With the National NAIDOC Awards being held in Alice Springs (Mparntwe), organisations in Central Australia are encouraged to also consider events and activities that will extend the host-city celebrations.
The 2020 National NAIDOC Week theme, ‘Always Was, Always Will Be.’ recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.
NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate Indigenous culture and the unique contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.
National NAIDOC Week will be celebrated from 5-12 July 2020.
