Kamilaroi man David Kennedy is a valued helping hand for many families in Walgett in Western NSW.

David is a school attendance supervisor, working with local schools to help parents and families make sure their kids have what they need to go to school every day.

“One of the big challenges was for us to show that we're not part of DOCs (Department of Community Services) and we're not going to punish anyone for not going to school. (We’re there) to be that helping hand, and be that friendly face in the morning when you're down,” David said.

Getting children to school every day is the Australian Government’s number one priority for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families.

The Remote School Attendance Strategy is about working together – with schools, families, parents, and community organisations – to ensure all children go to school every day.
