Torres Strait Women’s Leadership Program kicks-off for 2019
Media Release: Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA)
The sixth Torres Strait Women’s Leadership Program has kicked-off, as a group of nine Indigenous women from our region, commenced recently on stage one in Cairns.
Delivered by the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF), the Torres Strait Women’s Leadership Program involves three stages with sessions being held in the Cairns hinterland, Canberra and the Torres Strait.
The leadership training program is an initiative provided by the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) to equip women in the region with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support their future career aspirations and to the benefit of their community.
The TSRA Chairperson, Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, said the program has been highly successful since its inception in 2014.
“The Torres Strait Women’s Leadership Program has seen excellent results with more than 30 graduates having now completed the coursework and furthering their career, community and leadership aspirations,” he said.
“Every year the TSRA sees an increasingly competitive field of applicants applying via the selection process to participate in the program.
“Admission into the program is proof in itself of their determination, commitment and ability to apply themselves as they strive to become successful leaders for our region.”
Session two will take place in Canberra during September, followed by the final session and graduation ceremony, which is to be held in the Torres Strait in October.
The TSRA wishes to congratulate Gebee Bon, Loretta Glanville, Susan Baira, Lucy Wailu, Sarah Whap, Maryanne Cook, Roxanne Dorante, Geiza Stow and Dawn Baira on their selection and wishes them well throughout the program.
