Minister Scullion: Funding for the Kalan Enterprises Aboriginal Corporation
- Over $250,000 for Kalan Enterprises to purchase equipment, enabling them to bid for larger contracts, boost local employment opportunities
- Part of the Coalition Government’s $5 billion Indigenous Advancement Strategy
Kalan Enterprises will be better supported to help locals in the Coen region participate in economic opportunities, thanks to a $251,938 grant from the Coalition Government’s Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
Established in 2010, Kalan Enterprises is a locally-owned Aboriginal company that works with Traditional Owners to develop and implement land management plans, while creating employment opportunities.
"This funding will enable Kalan to purchase additional machinery, giving them the opportunity to compete for larger contracts in the Cape York region," said Minister Scullion.
While Kalan specialises in land management services, the organisation has also expanded with an arts and culture program, road construction and maintenance. They have also forged strong partnerships with major local organisations through their ranger program, including the CSIRO and James Cook University.
"In just seven years, Kalan has grown to become one of the largest indigenous private sector employers between Cooktown and Weipa.
This is a fabulous achievement of which they should be extremely proud – I’m thrilled to support them as they go from strength to strength."
