Have your say on the new National Agreement
Announcement – Joint Council
The Joint Council invites Indigenous Australians to participate in developing reform priorities for the new National Agreement.
The Joint Council met for the second time in Adelaide on Friday 23 August, co-chaired by the Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon. Ken Wyatt AM, MP, and Pat Turner AM, Chair of the Coalition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peak Organisations (Coalition of Peaks).
The Council agreed that the engagement process be led by the Coalition of Peaks. In close consultation with jurisdictions, the process will include face-to-face consultations around the country during September and October 2019.
It also includes an online survey, available from now until 25 October: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Closing_the_Gap_Have_your_say
A paper based version is also available at https://www.naccho.org.au/programmes/coalition-of-peaks/have-your-say/
The engagements are designed to build momentum for and demonstrate a new way of working between Australian Governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives, communities and organisations.
The Coalition of Peaks would like people across Australia to complete the survey to make sure they are on the right track to finalise the new National Agreement with governments.
A report on what is said will be prepared by the Coalition of Peaks, to be provided to governments and made public.
A discussion booklet developed by the Coalition of Peaks has background information on Closing the Gap and sets out what will be talked about in the survey.
