Author Boori Monty Pryor and illustrator Jan Ormerod’s book about a deadly pizza maker who gets the whole town dancing has won the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Children’s Fiction.
“Shake a Leg has black fellas and white fellas dancing together,” says Pryor, who was born in Townsville and now lives in Melbourne.
“That’s our way of getting people to read it. They want to find out what the white fella thought about dancing like that.”
Pryor has also written several award-winning books with Meme McDonald including Maybe Tomorrow, My Girragundji, The Binna Binna Man and Njunjul the Sun.
