Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Eight Mile community want to provide better opportunities for children and young people through better nutrition and access to childcare and sporting activities.
The community plan to convert a multi-purpose building so it can accommodate a day-care centre and homemaker centre. Once the building is converted, the homemaker centre will be a place to cook meals for kids attending the new day-care centre.
The Australian Government will fund the services and materials needed to convert the building, and the community will provide labour to complete it. A local architect is assisting free of charge to draw up plans to meet childcare regulations.
The Australian Government is funding a crèche worker and the Western Australian Government occasional-care places.
To engage young people in healthy activities, the sports oval and basketball court are being upgraded. The Australian Government will provide funds to top dress and reticulate the oval and to upgrade the basketball court including a backboard, ring and lighting.
