Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Bidyadanga community want to support their kids to be healthy and active, and to get a good education. The community is planning to use a new swimming pool—through a ‘no school, no pool’ rule—to encourage school attendance.
The Australian and Western Australian Governments are funding the pool’s construction and operating costs. The community will train to look after the pool and run it according to the ‘no school, no pool’ rule. They will also run swimming activities.
The pool will provide a safe and supervised environment, and help establish the community’s ‘Getting Youth Strong’ program by offering a range of positive options and facilities where children and young people can meet and play.
In the next stage of the project, the community will finish building a sports and recreation centre from community resources. They will organise and supervise young people’s activities at the centre such as film nights, sports, discos, camping and cultural activities.
This is Bidyadanga’s second SRA, building on the establishment of a basketball court in the first agreement.
