Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Kalumburu community want to support their children at school by providing good nutrition. They also want the Community Council to work better.
The community have signed two SRAs with the Australian Government to do this.
The first SRA will set up a breakfast club for school children. A healthy breakfast and recess snack will be provided for around 150 children, helping the children to concentrate at school and improving their nutrition.
Parents will make sure their children attend the breakfast club and school, contribute to the costs each fortnight, and help run the club on a roster system.
The Australian Government will provide equipment and help set up a direct debit scheme so that parents can contribute to the cost of the food. The Kalumburu School will provide a home economics room and will monitor school attendance.
The second SRA will provide the Community Council with mentoring in governance and conflict resolution. Council members and the community CEO will participate in training, and a new Community Development Officer will be employed.
The Australian Government will fund the training and mentoring, as well as wages and housing for the Community Development Officer.
