Shared Responsibility Agreement

The Billiluna community wants a resource/administration centre and healthy activities for young people outside school hours.

The community is part of the East Kimberley Council of Australian Governments (COAG) trial and has signed two SRAs with the Australian Government.

Under the first SRA it will be contributing labour to landscape and construct a new interim regional administration and resource centre. The Australian Government is funding the purchase and installation of two of the buildings, while a third demountable building is being donated by traditional owners.

The centre will provide community members with access to computing and other office resources, as well as a venue for meetings and gatherings. The centre will also be used by staff involved in the COAG trial.

Under the second SRA the community will organise three or four regular sporting activities a week for young people after school and on weekends for a period of three months, provide supervision for each event, and ensure the sports equipment is maintained. The Australian Government will contribute to the cost of sports equipment and other activities.

In order to build on these SRAs, the Australian Government and the Billiluna community will together examine opportunities for a youth program and other short-term youth projects.
