Shared Responsibility Agreement

The Balgo community wants to keep their young people safe and busy by organising healthy activities after school and on the weekend.

The community is part of the East Kimberley Council of Australian Governments (COAG) trial, led by the Department of Transport and Regional Services.

A community summit last year and work already done as part of the COAG trial identified a need for more structured activities in the community to help reduce substance abuse among young people.

Through the SRA, the community and Australian Government are working together to develop these activities.

The community will contribute games and equipment, look after the equipment, commit to organising three activities a week, provide supervision for the activities and keep records of participation.

The Australian Government is providing equipment and supplies for local youth camps, and repairing the basketball court lights.

Families and guardians will ensure that young people in their care participate in the safe and healthy activities being organised.
