Shared Responsibility Agreement
Shepparton is the site of a Council of Australian Governments (COAG) trial, led by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
An Aboriginal Community Facilitation Group has been established to develop representative structures and advise on governance issues.
An SRA has been signed by the community and Australian and Victorian Governments outlining 12 strategies to strengthen families.
The Education Pathways Strategy is the first of these, developed after an education summit in November 2004. Other strategies focus on governance, strategic planning, and leadership.
Under the Ladders to Success initiative, young Indigenous people are supported by their families, their education/training institution and an employer to make transitions into work and deal with any issues that arise in making that transition.
This is one of the earlier agreements arising out of the COAG trials. It builds on a commitment to work together made by the Indigenous community, government agencies and other local stakeholders. The agreement does not include community, family or individual obligations.
