Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Principal and Governing Council of Warriappendi Secondary School want their 45 students to come to school every day and take an active role in school activities.
To achieve this, the school has been running a successful media studies program, ‘Nunga TV’, for the past two years. This SRA will upgrade Warriappendi’s multimedia equipment to expand Nunga TV and develop a community media project.
Community members including elders and students will help to decide on the themes of the project such as oral histories, cultural events and general interest stories. They will also attend workshops and media events and share their stories as interviewers and interviewees. The project will lead on to the development of a Community Media Centre.
Warriappendi aims to become a hub school for media studies. It will support and guide the project, and plans to network with other high schools so they can take part in Nunga TV.
Parents will make sure their children go to school every day and will actively support the project. Students will commit to completing the certificate module of the program and will discuss their progress with their parents using a DVD report card. They will also network with students in other schools, TAFEs and universities to become involved with Nunga TV.
The Australian Government will fund the purchase of media equipment, hardware and software including computers, video cameras, lights and microphones, and help to develop the Nunga TV website. The South Australian Government will support accreditation and certification of students who complete the certificate module. Rotary will provide mentoring and training in public speaking.
