Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Aboriginal community in Port Augusta and nearby Davenport want to support their young people to finish school and enter further education as a pathway to meaningful employment.
This SRA will improve linkages between the community and existing Australian Government programs for older students and increase support for students at the Port Augusta public secondary school (where 35 per cent of students are Aboriginal).
A local organisation will provide an off-school site and IT support for an after-hours homework centre. The community will participate in committees supporting the programs. Volunteer mentors will work with students, and students who may benefit from university visits, mentoring or extra-curricula activities will be identified. Parents and students will commit to participating in these activities, and ensuring that studies are completed.
The Australian Government is funding the education programs, mentoring, university visits, and extra-curricular courses, in partnership with the State Government.
