Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Indigenous community in Burketown want to promote literacy among school children and in the broader community.
Their SRA will build on the results being achieved at the local school through the introduction of innovative approaches to literacy and information technology (IT). The SRA is providing reading and IT resources and equipment, and mentoring and specialist reading and IT services focusing on literacy.
The community will plan and deliver the Innovative Reading and ICT Literacy Program. They will provide cultural input, develop rules for access, and monitor results. The whole community will be encouraged to take part in the program. Families will actively encourage reading.
The Australian Government is purchasing reading resources, and providing specialist instructors, computers, printers, software and other support. The Burke Shire Council will release an offi cer for IT training, and the Burketown State School will allow community access to IT facilities and provide additional IT support.
