Shared Responsibility Agreement

Girringun Aboriginal Corporation (Girringun) represents the land and sea interests of nine traditional owner groups in north Queensland: Girramay, Warrgamay, Gugu-Badhun, Jirrbal, Djiru, Gulnay, Warungnu, Bandjin and Nywaigi.

Girrigun is currently funded by government to undertake a range of projects for Indigenous people in the region.

Girringun Governing Council (made up of an elder from each group) wants to work more actively with governments to improve service delivery. It has decided that, as a starting point, members from each of the traditional owner groups need to develop their skills in areas such as governance, negotiation and planning.

Under an SRA, governments have agreed to assist communities develop these skills. The project will involve development of ways of engaging with government at the local and clan level.

These skills will help local people plan for the future and assist their involvement in future SRAs.
