Shared Responsibility Agreement
The community at Warruwi want to improve their kids’ education, through more parent engagement, and more support for the local school.
Their SRA builds on a strategy adopted by the Indigenous Parents Committee of Warruwi School. It will employ and train five Indigenous Education Workers (IEWs) and fund radio broadcasts promoting education.
The community council will administer the associated CDEP positions. The community will develop ways to promote education through local radio. The local store, run by the Arnhem Land Progress Association, will provide catering at cost for a school nutrition program, and the health clinic will do regular screenings at the school.
Each family group will choose an IEW to work at the school and do professional training. Parents will send their children to school, and contribute to the nutrition program through Centrepay. Community elders and cultural advisors will provide cultural education.
The Australian Government is paying for the IEW positions, radio broadcasts and training.
