Shared Responsibility Agreement

The Tennant Creek community want Indigenous young people in the town to have a secure future and are working with the Australian Government to make sure families are supporting their children.

The community has signed an SRA that will provide short-term accommodation for young people affected by family breakdown.

The Julalikari Council, the major Indigenous organisation in the town, will provide two houses for youth accommodation as well as vehicle and related expenses. The community will select four people to undergo youth-support training.

Young people will commit to using the facilities. They will work with local service providers who will assess their needs and provide training and counselling.

Families have agreed to work with the Julalikari Council and associated agencies to address issues such as alcohol abuse and family violence.

The Australian Government will support the accommodation project by paying for furniture, utilities and food as well as initial salaries for the four youth-support officers.
