Shared Responsibility Agreement

When residents of Palmerston Indigenous Village got together to discuss their priorities for an SRA, they agreed on the need for a community plan and more healthy activities for young people.

The Village has a fluctuating population but on average there are 90 people living in 18 dwellings.

The SRA provides for an active partnership with the Palmerston City Council, which will hold fortnightly meetings with residents on community development. The community hall will also be upgraded so it can be used for recreational activities.

The Australian Government and the Palmerston City Council are funding the employment of a Community Development Officer and an Activities Officer. The Australian Government will also fund the repair and maintenance of the hall and the purchase of recreational equipment, and assist with employment programs.

The community will work with the Community Development Officer and the Council to develop a community plan. Village residents including young people will provide labour to repair and upgrade the hall.
