Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Kulaluk and Minmarama Park communities want employment opportunities for their young people through the development of long-term business ventures.
The SRA will lay the basis for a sustainable mud-crab business that will employ young people and develop the financial management and entrepreneurial skills of their business leaders.
The mud-crab venture has begun with the purchase of crablets, the development of hatchery facilities and the preparation of a preliminary business plan.
The Australian Government will fund the upgrade of infrastructure and the hatchery, and provide specialist aquaculture support. It will also provide jobs, training and work experience opportunities through CDEP and STEP (Structured Training and Employment Projects). A project officer will coordinate mentoring and business skills development.
The communities will develop a profit-share scheme for workers, mentor young job seekers and employ a consultant to develop a long-term business plan. Community members will participate in the community planning process.
To develop the communities’ business skills, the Australian Government will facilitate access to business, finance and training programs. The communities will support the placement of an Indigenous Community Volunteer, seek out commercial partnerships, and ensure suitable governance structures are in place.
