Shared Responsibility Agreement

The Bonya community wants to replace a nearby store which is closing.

Bonya is a small settlement that functions as a resource centre for six surrounding smaller communities.

The Bonya community has entered into an SRA with the Australian Government to establish a new community-owned and operated store that will also provide longer-term health benefits. The store will sell only healthy food, and the community will participate in health and education programs.

The community will ensure that any profits from the store are put back into the community and no loans will be made to residents. Health clinic staff will advise the store on healthy food choices.

Families will be learning about better nutrition, family budgeting and dog health and will keep a clean-yard policy, including no vandalism or littering in the common area. They have also agreed not to seek credit or loans from the store.

The community council will ensure that visitors and new residents stick to the community’s rules, and existing community policy on school attendance and support for school activities will continue.
