Shared Responsibility Agreement

Indigenous communities on the North Coast of New South Wales want to keep people out of the Family Court and have a culturally sensitive service for those already in contact with the Court.

Through this SRA, ten CDEP positions will be used to establish ten Indigenous Community Contact Officers (ICCOs). The ICCOs will be located in key communities on the North Coast (Kempsey, Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour and Nambucca Valley) and will provide information on the services available from the Family Court to Indigenous families in the region. They will also support families and help refer them to other agencies that can provide assistance.

The Australian Government will fund the ICCOs. The Family Court will provide skills training, coordination and support to the ICCOs, and develop culturally appropriate material for Indigenous people.

Other organisations such as family violence units and family support services will support the ICCOs and help out with the program.
