Shared Responsibility Agreement

The La Pa Bummers Youth Haven needs to expand its range of activities to attract and retain young people. Due to a lack of funds, volunteers have been purchasing only small items to use in arts and crafts activities. The limited variety of activities on offer is making fewer young people want to take part, and there is a danger that young people will stop coming altogether.

Under its SRA, the Youth Haven will receive funding to attract more high school age children by expanding its range of activities to include music lessons, sporting activities and computer lessons.

The community will help volunteers at the Youth Haven supervise local youth, as well as make sure that their own children come to take part in the activities. They will help to develop a business plan, work with a Community Development Facilitator to create a longer-term youth strategy, and negotiate with the Government and the private sector for sponsorship and future funding arrangements for the Youth Haven.

Volunteers will mentor young people and encourage parents to support their children attending and taking part in the activities. The Maroubra Police and Community Youth Club will make their bus available to pick up and drop off students.

The Australian Government will fund recreation and administrative equipment, public liability insurance, and help to plan and organise funding for future activities. The New South Wales Parks and Wildlife Authority will carry out field trips. The La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council will provide free use of the Youth Haven facility for 12 months, and will improve outside lighting.
