Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Indigenous community in Bowraville want to support an important local Aboriginal women’s group by providing them with a base for operations.
The group, Miimi Mothers, currently run programs including grief counselling, liaison with families on school attendance issues, crisis accommodation, and drug and alcohol assistance for community members. Miimi Mothers also help local people to connect with mainstream services by translating information in culturally appropriate ways.
The Australian Government will provide funds to purchase and refurbish a house which the group can work from, and which people can also use as a community centre.
The community will provide labour to help refurbish the house. Miimi Mothers will look after the property and apply for grants to get more services for the Indigenous people of Bowraville and the Nambucca Valley.
Bowraville Community Alliance will support Miimi Mothers in partnership with Bowraville Aboriginal Community by forming a working party to link with agencies on community issues. They will also help develop future SRAs to support families and young people at risk.
