Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Albury community want to support their children at school through closer involvement of parents, carers and elders.
The SRA will establish an Indigenous Resource Centre at the Hume Public School. The centre will help Indigenous children to stay at school through educational, health and general support services. It will also help build stronger links with the wider school community through activities showcasing Indigenous culture.
The Australian Government is funding the refurbishment of an existing facility to house the new centre.
The New South Wales Government will provide a project manager to oversee the refurbishment and train community volunteers as literacy and numeracy tutors. NSW Community Health will provide information sessions at the centre for parents about eye and ear health problems that may affect their kids. Hume Public School will run a daily breakfast program.
The community will help in refurbishing the building and constructing an outdoor meeting area, and become more active within the school community through membership of the Parents and Citizens Committee.
Parents, carers, elders and other community members will make use of the Indigenous Resource Centre and take part in its activities, develop a roster to deliver the breakfast program, and attend information sessions run by NSW Community Health. They will also ensure children attend ear and eye testing programs, and meet with school staff at the centre to discuss student issues. Elders will mentor children and parents at the school.
