Shared Responsibility Agreement

The Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council is working to improve the quality of the 42 houses it rents to local residents. Low rental income over many years has reduced the level of maintenance and the houses are in need of repair.

The Council has signed an SRA to assist in the implementation of its Housing Management Plan. This SRA is a first step in improving the quality of houses in Wreck Bay.

The community will ensure tenancy agreements are in place for all rental houses. Once rental income is increased and houses have been upgraded, the community will maintain houses in a good condition and report maintenance issues promptly.

The Australian Government will provide funds to survey the extent and cost of repairs, create a housing database, and do minor housing upgrades for tenants who agree to pay rents. The Government will also fund the employment of a Community Development Officer to consult with tenants and develop a fair rental collection program.

The Wreck Bay Community Council will manage these activities.
