Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Murdi Paaki region is part of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) trial in New South Wales. This regional SRA negotiated with the Murdi Paaki Regional Council will improve living conditions, health and education over a large area.
The project will install evaporative cooling units to houses in some communities, providing residents with relief from the constant heat and a more comfortable home environment for school children.
Installation of the units will be dependant on some communities in the region developing their own SRA for the project, with specific local responsibilities. These local SRAs might focus on school attendance, encouraging children and young people to participate in sporting events, community clean ups and family violence workshops.
The Australian Government will provide funding for the units and arrange CDEP participants to assist in their fabrication, installation and maintenance.
The New South Wales Government will administer the funds and give technical support. It will also ensure regular maintenance of the units and arrange training for existing Healthy Housing Workers.
The Murdi Paaki Regional Housing Corporation will employ a coordinator to oversee the program. It will also create tenancy agreements in communities where they do not exist, and renegotiate rents to cover maintenance costs. Two or three members of each community will make sure the project is working by developing technical knowledge, monitoring the units and liaising with other Murdi Paaki communities to share approaches and lessons.
