Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Enngonia community wants to improve their children’s access to education and has signed an SRA with the Australian and New South Wales Governments to achieve this.
The community is remote and the local Enngonia Public School has around 30 students. Bourke is the closest large service centre.
Under this SRA, students in Years 7–10 who would otherwise not go on to further education will participate in a distance education program.
The community will encourage school-aged children to participate in the program. The local CDEP will maintain the premises and CDEP participants will also deliver cultural programs and other activities.
The Australian Government will provide funds to cover rent and costs such as electricity. It will pay for consumables such as food for cooking and other similar classes. It will also fund an Aboriginal teacher’s aide for the project and bus trips for joint school days with Bourke High School.
The NSW Government will provide a casual teacher based in Enngonia for students in Years 7–10. The NSW Government will also provide desks and sporting and electronic equipment, and monitor test results.
