Shared Responsibility Agreement
The Barkuma (Kurri Kurri) Neighbourhood Centre provides highly valued services to the local Indigenous community but needs to be repaired and upgraded so services can operate more effectively and safely.
These services include help for families in distress (counselling and short-term accommodation), programs for people with a disability, and programs for young people. The centre is also a meeting place for the community.
This community places great emphasis on the safety and strength of their families and is keen to ensure that help is available at the centre when required.
The SRA will refurbish the centre, repair the fence and upgrade the walkway.
The community will continue fund-raising to help with costs and develop more activities to help local families.
The Australian Government will fund the refurbishment and ensure a CDEP position is available for administrative support in the centre.
