Local projects to support Indigenous communities
Forty-one organisations across Australia are sharing in more than $1.4 million from the Gillard Government to help deliver community projects to support Indigenous Australians.
Delivered under the Indigenous Communities Strategic Investment Program, the funding supports community projects such as youth programs, infrastructure upgrades and women’s workshops. Funding includes:
- $50,000 to help refurbish the local Youth Centre in Kupingarri, so that the community can provide additional after school activities for children;
- $20,000 investment will expand a successful youth engagement program for Indigenous teenagers in Kuranda; and
- $20,000 to expand educational programs Coolgardie for Indigenous youth and young adults, aimed at improving school performance, healthier lifestyles and community engagement.
By working in partnership with Indigenous communities, much needed support and services that are identified by local people as being in the best interests of their community are being delivered.
