There are two ways of finding information on the Indigenous Portal. You can use the menu structure to browse the resources or carry out a text search using the simple search or advanced search features

Fig 1 shows the main menu structure that appears on all pages of the site. When you place your mouse over a category item (without clicking the mouse) a topic menu should fly out to the right. You can then move your mouse over the topic you wish to select and click and you will be presented with a list of items for that topic (fig 3). Alternatively you can click the category and a list will appear (fig 2)

Fig 3 shows the list taht will be presented when you select a topic or peform a simple or advanced search. By default a list of title is presented. If you wish to read the description of the resource, either position the mouse on the title without clicking (a text box will appear) or click Show Descriptions - a new page will be loaded. By default, the first 20 records are shown (10 if the descriptions are viewed). If there are more records there will be an indicator at the bottom of the page showing which results page you are currently viewing. To view another page, simply click on the appropriate number.

There are two options for text searching: a simple text search that appears on all pages shown in fig 4 and an advanced search page reached by clicking Advanced search. A simple text search will search on all words entered across all fields in the database. The advanced search option has more advanced features.

There is a separate section of the portal that is limited to information only about or for Torres Strait Islanders. To get to this sub-site, click on the Torres Strait button on the home page or in the case of the search page, underneath the services category as in fig 5.

To return to the main part of the portal, click on Back to Indigenous Portal which is underneath the services category on the Torres Strait Page (see fig 6)
