Sydney Swans AFL star Adam Goodes is a strong contender for a record-equaling third Brownlow Medal.
Born in the South Australian town of Wallaroo, 160 kilometres north of Adelaide, Goodes, whose mother was a Narugga woman, has made an important contribution to the Indigenous community in Sydney since being drafted into the AFL in 1997.
Through his role as 2011 Learn Earn Legend! Ambassador Goodes helps the Australian Government and the AFL encourage young Indigenous Australians to stay at school and get a job.
In 2009 Goodes and former Swans team mate Michael O’Loughlin formed the Goodes-O’Loughlin Foundation to help Indigenous Australians set and achieve life goals.
The 2011 Brownlow Medal will be announced on 26 September.
