2012 Indigenous All Stars team announced
Parramatta recruit Chris Sandow and Test centres Greg Inglis and Justin Hodges are among five newcomers to the Indigenous All Stars team that will play the NRL All Stars at the Gold Coast’s Skilled Park on 4 February.
This will be the third time the Australian Government and the National Rugby League have come together to spread the Learn Earn Legend! message through the annual All Stars game.
Learn Earn Legend! encourages young Indigenous Australians to stay in school, get a job and be a legend.
In 2012 the All Stars trophy will be renamed in memory of rugby league legend and Former Origin Great Arthur Beetson. In addition, the Government will award two $5,000 scholarships in Mr Beetson’s honour for a male and a female Indigenous student to pursue further education, a traineeship or an apprenticeship.
The 2012 All Stars jersey has also been unveiled. Designed by Indigenous artist and former player Sid Domic, it features a turtle shell representing the people of the Torres Strait Islands, boomerangs to represent the Australian Aboriginal people, and a blue circle symbolising the Gold Coast.
