Indigenous network

The Australian Government reaches out to Indigenous people through a network of offices.

Most agencies with Indigenous responsibilities have State/Territory Offices to coordinate activities in that jurisdiction.

Indigenous Coordination Centres in remote, regional and metropolitan areas look after local coordination and planning of Australian Government programs and services for Indigenous people.

Six Regional Operation Centres serve priority communities under the National Partnership Agreement on Remote Service Delivery. These have staff from both the Australian Government and the relevant State or Territory.

Government Business Managers (or their equivalent) live and work in many communities in the Northern Territory and Remote Service Delivery communities outside the Territory. They are assisted by Indigenous Engagement Officers (or their equivalent).

Indigenous budget

Each year the Indigenous budget across the Australian Government is coordinated through a single process.

States and territories

All governments in Australia are committed to working together on Closing the Gap.

Ministerial Council on Indigenous Affairs

The Ministerial Council for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs is charged by the Council of Australian Governments with ensuring that all levels of government work together to improve the wellbeing of Indigenous Australians.
