Increasing Indigenous economic opportunity - A discussion paper on the future of the CDEP and Indigenous Employment Programs
Discussion Paper and Consultation Sessions
On 18 May 2008, the Australian Government released a discussion paper – Increasing Indigenous economic opportunity – A discussion paper on the future of the CDEP and Indigenous Employment Programs.
Following the release of the discussion paper a series of public consultation sessions, remote community visits, meetings with employer groups and targeted focus groups took place across Australia to provide the opportunity to learn more about the proposed changes and to provide feedback. Written feedback was also received.
Submissions on the discussion paper will be received until midnight 20 June 2008.
Information received through these consultations will inform the Government as it considers how to increase Indigenous economic and social participation and reform the Indigenous Employment Program (IEP) and the Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) program.

Employment Services
The Government also consulted about a new universal employment services model which will enable providers to develop individualised and tailored plans for getting job seekers work ready and into employment. Reforms to Indigenous-specific services and programs will build on these changes. To find out more information about this process go to workplace.gov.au/ESpurchasing
