COAG Indigenous Trials

Home

In April 2002, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) introduced an initiative to develop integrated and flexible programs and services for Indigenous people in eight trial sites across Australia, one in each State and Territory.

Each trial was led by one Australian Government and one State Government agency. Further information on the background to the COAG initiative is provided here.

The trial sites were:

  • Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, South Australia
  • Australian Capital Territory
  • Cape York, Queensland
  • East Kimberley region, Western Australia
  • Murdi Paaki region, western New South Wales
  • North-east Tasmania
  • Shepparton region, Victoria
  • Wadeye, Northern Territory.

These trials were independently evaluated and the reports released on 22 February 2007 by the Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. Read the Minister's media release.
