My mother is my role model. If I didn’t have her in my life, I might’ve gone in a different direction.
From: Charlie Maher
What kind of future did you imagine for yourself when you were young?
I was lucky enough to have a mother who didn’t drink or smoke, she was a positive person in my life – she guided me in the right direction. I’m very fortunate to have her in my life and she’s helped me to get to where I am now. If I didn’t have her in my life, I might’ve gone in a different direction.
What kind of future do you imagine for yourself now?
Running the New York Marathon has given me a lot of confidence – I just want to keep going with the project. It’s something that I know I’ll have a positive influence on, and I want to keep persevering with it and help it grow. I want my daughter to have more than I had. I want to be there for her.
Who is your role model and why?
My mother is my role model – she’s been there for me all my life. My wife has also been a big influence on my life. She’s a very strong person; she’s my best friend and I love her dearly.
What do you think makes a strong future?
Education is a big one. I work in a school so it’s very important. Staying healthy and active is also important for a strong future.
